The Big Buddha

Oh, you want more?
Well, I guess that's ok, I've got a few things to say.

This is the Tian Tan Buddha just outside the Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island in the SAR of Hong Kong. We got to Lantau by boat, and took a bus to the monastery (great air-con). During this time, mist started to come down, and when we arrived, the top of the hill on which the statue rests was covered in a shroud of fog. In a suitably dramatic manner, the mist started to be blown away, and a large shape started to loom out. Soon, the whole statue could be seen, but not for to long, as Tian Tan was covered again. After clambering up the 268 steps I could appreciate the impressive size of it (I almost typed 'him'), and the craftsmanship involved. There are more photographs on the Flickr link thing a bit further down. Any Questions?

Behold! RoBoTron awakes!

Robot
You are 57% Rational, 42% Extroverted, 0% Brutal, and 0% Arrogant.
You are the Robot! You are characterized by your rationality. In fact, this is really ALL you are characterized by. Like a cold, heartless machine, you are so logical and unemotional that you scarcely seem human. For instance, you are very humble and don't bother thinking of your own interests, you are very gentle and lack emotion, and you are also very introverted and introspective. You may have noticed that these traits are just as applicable to your laptop as they are to a human being. In short, your personality defect is that you don't really HAVE a personality. You are one of those annoying, super-logical people that never gets upset or flustered. Unless, of course, you short circuit.

To put it less negatively:

1. You are more RATIONAL than intuitive.

2. You are more INTROVERTED than extroverted.

3. You are more GENTLE than brutal.

4. You are more HUMBLE than arrogant.

Compatibility:

Your exact opposite is the Class Clown.

Other personalities you would probably get along with are the Hand-Raiser, the Emo Kid, and the Haughty Intellectual.

*

If you scored near fifty percent for a certain trait (42%-58%), you could very well go either way. For example, someone with 42% Extroversion is slightly leaning towards being an introvert, but is close enough to being an extrovert to be classified that way as well. Below is a list of the other personality types so that you can determine which other possible categories you may fill if you scored near fifty percent for certain traits.

The other personality types:

The Emo Kid: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Starving Artist: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Bitch-Slap: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Brute: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Hippie: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Televangelist: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Schoolyard Bully: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Class Clown: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Robot: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Haughty Intellectual: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Spiteful Loner: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Sociopath: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Hand-Raiser: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Braggart: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Capitalist Pig: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Smartass: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Edinbrugh fringe festival is a massive thing dedicated to arts, theatre and comedy (and some mixes of those), and, as part of my 'do things I would not normally do if I hadn't just finished my A levels' thing that lead me to Hong Kong, I am thinking about going to it. It goes on from the 7th to the 29th of next month, and I would probably go up on a Friday, stay the weekend and come back down on the Monday. It is just a foetus of an idea at the moment, due in part to lack of money/organisation/accomidation/focus, but it may happen. I may even find someone else to go with, but it could be an 'on my own in a city, trying to avoid the heroin addicts' thing. If any readers have gone to it, or know of those who have, then get in touch please. I've also uploaded as many photos to flickr of Hong Kong as will fit.

I'm shocked to discover that Sam may have been correct all along. I could be a socialist, as I answered yes to some of the questions on the quiz below (thanks to socialist swine for this). Socialist Swine's Quicky Socialism Quiz. 1. Do you think that, even if you're poor, your children deserve to have the same access to educational opportunities as those of your wealthier country(wo)men? 2. Do you think that it's unconscionable that there are homeless people in a nation that is amongst the richest in the world? 3. Do you think that poor people deserve adequate health care? 4. Do you think that workers should have access to redress if they're mistreated by their employers? 5. Do you think that people have a right to decide what happens to their body, and that such autonomy shouldn't be undermined by the government? 6. Do you think that homosexuals are people too? 7. Would you prefer it if multinational corporations pay more taxes or yourself pay more taxes?8. Do you think that your tax money should go to other things besides private businesses? 9. Do you think that your government should represent your interests over the interests of big business? 10. Do you think that the small guy should matter more?

Sitting in 'Pacific Coffee' using in Stanley, belly filled with very good Thai food and poor, pricy coffee. Blogging should be back to normal in a few days, when I may put up a small run through (with pics) of the holidays events. We're meeting up with an expat who lives here in a little while. He happens to be the uncle of Becky (see below) and therefore should be a nice chap. The weather is good, but a bit too hot for my liking. joy geen!

In a libuary in the SAR. The events of the past few days in London seem surreal at the moment. I'd link to various bloggers who followed the events, but my cantonese isn't up to the task. I first heard about events on the radio in the ladies market. these PCs seem to go off at random, so I'll leave it at that.

Hello, I'm in a small bar in Hong Kong. I thought I'd quickly post, and then come back and edit/add photos etc later, so here we are.

Guten Targ! Blogging from foreign climes! I'm in Zurich, and have met a guy who is also going to Hong Kong (not Theo) only problem is (appart from the different keyboard) he only speaks Mandarin and German - conversation is tricky, but manageable. Bloggers san frontieres! *edit* I discovered this a few days later. Imust have forgotten about this post, so here's this bit of fried gold!

I'm in Birmingham airport on a dreadfully expencive internet thing (10p/min!). I set off by coach at about 9.00 GMT (10 mins late - I was frantic about this) and had a pleasent ride up. Took a taxi from the coach station driven by a nice guy with an Irish accent, and got to the airport at about 11.00. Went through security, and set off the thing (as I always do, either because I leave my wallet in my pocket a la Heathrow, or because of buttons/glasses/watch/bionic brain), but the staff were very nice an polite. Had a pricy large latte and read my Guardian :). I may post in Zurich if I can (I've got lots of time there, so I should. If you read this, please comment on your own hilarious instances in airports. Ciao!

The great lady herself (who reminds me of Shirly Williams a bit) Adam tied up to represent the third world (soon to feature in the local press!)

Went to a solidarity protest today, in support of the Make Poverty History campain. I'll post pictures in a bit. Adam, Becky's bf got tied up to represent the third world being tied up with debt. We left him for a bit, then he was untied by the youngest person there. Lunch was a nice salad at The Malt House (now fairtrade). Becky's grandmother is a bit of a hero, as she's getting on a bit, but still does so much for the Monmouth Fair Trade forum and lots of other good causes. I'm listening to the concert over the interweb at the moment, but I think I'll see some on the television as well. (above) Some of the crowd (below) The Monmouth Fairtrade inflatable Bannana
